Contribution terms

What happens to what you send us

Version recorded against every submission, so the position for any given contribution stays provable even after these terms change.

What we ask for

Factual information printed on a product: its name, its brand, its barcode, its size, and the ingredient list as printed. That is what the database is made of.

What you agree to

That BeautySignal may use the factual product information you submit — and any photograph of packaging you send for that purpose — to build, check and improve its product database, and to show that information to other people using BeautySignal.

Facts about a product are not something anybody owns. A photograph you take is yours, and you are giving us permission to use it for this purpose, not handing it over.

What we do not claim

We do not claim ownership of anything you send that is not product information. We do not claim rights over your other content, and we will not use a packaging photograph for marketing.

Please only send what you have seen

Photograph or read the pack yourself. Don't copy an ingredient list from another website or app — you may not have the right to pass it on, and we may not have the right to use it.

Nothing is published unchecked

A submission goes into a review queue. A person looks at it before it becomes part of the catalogue, and it is marked as community-submitted until somebody verifies it against packaging. That is slower, and it is the reason the data is worth anything.

Professional review

These terms are written to be understood rather than to be exhaustive. BeautySignal intends to have them reviewed by a solicitor before the contribution channel is promoted widely, and this note is here rather than a claim of legal completeness that would not be true.
